Bandai Namco Spotted Filing a Trademark for 'Amazing Katamari Damacy'

A brand-new trademark filing has been spotted. This time, it's Bandai Namco filing a trademark for "Amazing Katamari Damacy."

The new trademark was filed through the European Union Intellectual Property Office and was spotted first by a NeoGAF user ekim. The trademark is for a video game and was filed on Monday, April 11, according to Eurogamer.

Aside from this information, no other detail is known about the possibly new game from Bandai Namco. No one knows if the new IP will be for consoles, a remake of the original game, or another mobile spin-off. Bandai Namco has already released a few "Katamari Damacy" spin-offs, including "Tap my Katamari."

However, IGN notes that although it's unclear what exactly the trademark might be, the presence of "Damacy" suggests it could be a re-release of the original game. The publication explains that sequels dropped the "Damacy." In addition, the game wasn't released in Europe. It was released first in Japan and then in the United States.

The original game was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. The "katamari" is a magical adhesive ball which collects various objects, such as a tiny thumbtack to a mountain. When the magic ball has collected enough objects, it would be big enough to become a star. Meanwhile, the latest "Katamari" game came out way back 2012 for the PS Vita and was called "Touch my Katamari."

Previously, another publisher was spotted filing a trademark for a possible sequel to a well-loved game. Ubisoft filed a new "Beyond Good and Evil" trademark in the EUIPO, suggesting something new could come from the franchise. The trademark filing covered game software, online component, games and playthings, clothing, and paper products.

As with Ubisoft's "Beyond Good and Evil," a trademark filing doesn't guarantee that a new game will be coming out soon. Bandai Namco hasn't commented as of this writing.
