Baselworld 2017: Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger to Release Android Wear Smartwatches

High-end fashion labels Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger have recently announced at the ongoing Baselworld 2017 conference that they are going to launch their own versions of smartwatches that will run on the Android Wear operating system.

Baselworld is one of the biggest watch and jewellery trade shows in the world. This year, the event started last Thursday, March 23, and will go on until March 30 in Basel, Switzerland. It is understandably the best time for Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger to announce they are launching products, where high-end technology and fashion design collide.

As for Hugo Boss, they are calling their upcoming smartwatch "Touch" and it will run with the latest Android Wear 2.0 software. Wareable reports that the Hugo Boss Touch's bodywork will be composed of carbon black stainless steel with ingress protection.

The Hugo Boss Touch will sport a built-in near field communication device which will permit its owners to navigate the Android Pay feature through the smartwatch. The same Wareable report confirms that the Hugo Boss Touch will not feature a heart rate monitor, thus a nod to its orientation as a "fashion-focused" gadget.

On the other hand, Tommy Hilfiger has also presented the TH24/7. Since its announcement, several reports could not help but comment that the fashion label might have chosen a  "bizarre" name. However, the simplicity of TH24/7 has also stood out, compared to other fashion-focused smartwatches announced at Baselworld 2017.

Tommy Hilfiger's TH24/7 reportedly has a sleek design that gives the feel of durability, with its stainless steel bodywork fully extending to the back of the watch face. And aside from not having a heart rate monitoring ability, it also does not sport NFC, unlike the Hugo Boss Touch.

It is important to note that both Hugo Boss Touch and Tommy Hilfiger's TH24/7 are helmed by watchmaker company Movado and they are both slated for release in August. However, the price tags of the two smartwatches are different, with the Hugo Boss Touch slightly pricier at $395, while the TH24/7 is expected to cost $299.
