BBM for iPhone Download Set to Roll Out Today

The BBM for iPhone downloadable application will roll out sometime today.

Blackberry announced the software's release on a blog post this afternoon.

"The demand for BBM on Android and BBM on iPhone continues to be amazing," wrote the company. "About six million people signed up for information about BBM at BBM.com. As you know, in just seven hours, about one million Android users were using the unreleased version of BBM for Android. What you don't know is that more than one million people have found creative ways to 'side load' BBM on their iPhone."

The app will get a staggered rollout today that sees users reserving a spot in line by entering their email address. Users who already signed up on the company's site can use the app immediately. Today's sign up will determine when the rest of the users receive it.

BlackBerry was originally supposed to roll out the software at the end of the summer, but delayed it until Sept. 22. The second date was canceled due to an early leak of the BBM for Android app.

6 million Android and iPhone users have already signed up for updates on the release of the software, according to BlackBerry. The company first made an announcement on its website last month announcing the times and details for the BBM roll out on Android and iOS.

"That's right BBM fans- the iconic mobile social network will begin rolling out for Android and iPhone customers around the world from Sept. 21," wrote Blackberry on its official site in September. "Soon, you'll be able to easily connect with friends on different platforms."

BBM was supposed to be available as a free download on those dates and will only be compatible with Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above and Apple devices running iOS 6 and above.
