"I was shocked. I think she was just feeling empowered, like a strong woman, and she said she's been feeling it for a long time," Hazan revealed in an Us Weekly report. "She didn't want to hide behind her hair in real life."

The hair stylist went on to explain how Beyonce's new haircut could shape the way that women perceive their own hair.

"I'm so happy because the extensions give women the wrong expectation of what their hair should look like - it's great for onstage, but everyday women shouldn't have or want to have five pounds of hair on their head," Hazan said in the Us Weekly report. "This hair is more natural, more realistic."

The singer became a trending topic on Twitter Wednesday after debuting pictures of her short new haircut on Instagram in a number of photographs that she chose not to caption. However, fans offered mixed reactions to the singer's drastic image change.

Beyonce previously let it be known that she feels beauty is about more than appearance. The singer has been vocal about the lessons she is teaching her 1-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter and said the most important one will not be about outward appearance.

"My biggest thing is to teach [Blue] not to focus on the aesthetic," Beyonce previously told People magazine, the publication that named her the most beautiful woman in 2011. "It's really about who you are, and the human being, that makes you beautiful."
