Carrie Underwood Poster: Singer In Dirndl for 'Sound of Music'
Carrie Underwood fans got their first look at the singer in character as Maria von Trapp in the poster promoting "The Sound of Music" this week.
The live production is coming to NBC and will see the "American Idol" alum blending her singing skills with acting as the beloved Maria.
On Monday, Underwood shared a first look at her character on Twitter.
"@CarrieUnderwood as Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music," the post read.
In the poster, Underwood dons a dirndl with her blonde hair braided and pinned to her head in the role that made Julie Andrews famous.
Similar to the film's poster during the 1960s featuring Andrews, Underwood's arms are outreached before a mountainous scene. However, the country music star's costume appears tighter and features a laced-up bodice and puffy, white sleeves instead of the dark apron costume worn by Andrews.
"The beloved family classic comes alive again," the new poster reads.
As one of country music's biggest stars, Underwood received mixed reactions from "Sound of Music" fans once her role was revealed.
"So the Sound of Music Live with Carrie Underwood is happening…" wrote Katie. "I'm unsure about this."
Hours after sharing the photo from "The Sound of Music Live," Underwood posted a message about staying positive despite the varying reactions.
"Negative people are negative because THEY 'can't' & are insanely jealous of those who 'can,'" the singer wrote on Twitter. "So be positive & show the world that you WILL!"
Underwoood will appear in the live version of the timeless film alongside "True Blood" star Stephen Moyer, who will portray Capt. von Trapp.
Other stars in the three-hour production will include Broadway veterans Laura Benanti, Christian Borle and Audra McDonald, NBC announced.
"The Sound of Music Live!" hits NBC on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. EST.
The live production will air 48 years after the Robert Wise-directed film was first released. "The Sound of Music" made Rodgers and Hammerstein's songs famous, and the role of Maria ignited Andrews' career as an actress. The beloved 1965 film also starred Christopher Plummer.
