Carrie Underwood Replaces Faith Hill on 'Sunday Night Football'

Carrie Underwood has replaced Faith Hill on the theme song for "Sunday Night Football," NBC announced this week.

Hill had offered her voice on "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" for the past six seasons, but decided to give someone else a chance this year. That person is "American Idol" alum and fellow Grammy Award-winning country music star Underwood.

"I am thrilled to be a part of NBC's 'Sunday Night Football' and am so honored they asked me," the Underwood said in a statement on Tuesday. "I have always loved football season, and it is so exciting to now become part of it every Sunday night!"

The singer added that although her husband Mike Fisher is a player for the Nashville Predators, he is excited about her foray into sports.

"He's a sports dude," she told Billboard.com. "Yeah, he plays hockey, but he definitely loves football, as do I."

Furthermore, "SNF" producer Fred Gaudelli revealed that the 30-year-old star was the television series' first and only choice for a new theme singer, according to USA Today.

Meanwhile, Hill announced her "SNF" departure via Twitter last month.

"Amazing 2 have been part of SNF- an honor," Hill started. "I've just let everyone there know its time 2 let someone else rock the open."

She added that it was a "difficult decision."

"Kinda emotional," Hill posted. "Love all u guys at SNF- I'll b watching!!!"

Last year, just before football season began, the "This Kiss" singer released a statement about her role with "SNF."

"I wait all year for Sunday Night," Hill said in a statement last September. "Somehow the season wouldn't feel the same without seeing everyone from NBC/Sunday Night Football over the summer [when we record and film the open]. It makes it feel like the wait for the season is somehow shorter."

Last year, the show's theme song was set to the tune of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Loving You."

Gaudelli noted his gratitude for Hill following her announcement, tweeting "great love and appreciation" for the singer's participation.
