Chelsea Clinton Leaving NBC?

Chelsea Clinton may be leaving NBC as soon as her 90-day contract expires, reports say. The former “first daughter” made her debut hosting a segment for NBC’s “Rock Center” on Dec. 12, 2011.

Steve Capus, NBC News president told The New York Times, “We both want to see how this goes… But I hope it’s the beginning of a nice, long-term relationship.”

Clinton, however, is only signed for 90 days, which ends soon.

Her segment, “Making a Difference” features stories of people doing good for their communities and families while providing Clinton the opportunity to continue working for the Clinton Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to “strengthen the capacity of people throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence.”

Clinton spoke about her new role to The New York Times and said, “I hope telling stories through ‘Making a Difference’--as in my academic work and nonprofit work--will help me to live my grandmother’s adage of ‘Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you.’”

NBC has denied any talk of Clinton leaving, telling the New York Post, “You will see more pieces from Chelsea. She has been warmly welcomed into this news division, and we can’t be more pleased with her work. We hope she will be with us for a long time. There was no over-hyping of her role.”

“Rock Center with Brian Williams” airs Monday nights on NBC.
