Christians Celebrate 2004 Jesus Day and 'March for Jesus'

Approximately 12 million Christians worldwide celebrated Jesus Day and March for Jesus on Pentecost Saturday, May 29, 2004. The largest gathering in the world took place in Sao Palo, Brazil, where 1.2 million filled the streets for the march. An expected 67 registered cities nationwide and in Canada participated in the event. Numbers are yet to be confirmed, according to Chris Guiry, who helped his wife Jeannie organize the nationwide event.

The event is also celebrated concurrently with Jesus Day, where Christians cross over denominational barriers to uphold three principles: celebration, service, and unity, characterized by worship, volunteer outreaches, and a communal march to praise the name of Jesus .The theme for 2004 Jesus Day was “Walk the way, Believe the truth, Live the life” based on John 14:6. It has been reported that some locations have rescheduled the celebration to next weekend since Jesus Day befell during Memorial Day weekend this year.
