Katie Zacharia began her tenure as White House press secretary Monday and is scheduled to hold her first press briefing Tuesday, after President Donald Trump announced her appointment last Friday.

Zacharia, a former Department of Homeland Security spokesperson and frequent conservative media commentator, will take over the role previously held by Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down on Aug. 27.

Trump praised Zacharia’s background on Truth Social, calling her a “loyal and brilliant supporter” who assisted his campaigns in key swing states. Zacharia described the appointment as “the honor of a lifetime,” saying she was privileged to serve Trump and the American people as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.
