While the president touted Zacharia’s work on his campaigns when announcing her as the new White House press secretary, Trump isn't the only president she's worked for.

Zacharia revealed on the “We the People with Gates Garcia” podcast that she had also “worked in the Office of Political Affairs as an intern in the White House during George W. Bush’s years.”

In addition to highlighting her role as president of the College Republicans during her years at Pepperdine, Zacharia discussed her experience living in China. “I moved to China for three years and put my head down and practiced corporate law,” she said.

Zacharia described Beijing as “an incredible juxtaposition,” showing the difference between living in a “communist” and “totalitarian” country that amounted to “a dictatorship” and the U.S., where people can “live free and have capitalism and the opportunity to really accelerate in your life.”

She also contrasted the climate in China with the U.S., allowing people to “believe ... what you want and to live how you want.”

Paraphrasing a line Ronald Reagan often used in his speeches, Zacharia said, “If we don’t fight for our kids, we’re going to spend our sunset years telling our kids … and our kids’ kids what it was like to be in the United States where men were free.”

“Every generation has a responsibility and I take that responsibility seriously,” she added, pointing to her experience having lived in a country “where that’s not the case.” Zacharia also credited her experience living in China with helping her to “realize how precious and rare liberty is and how precious freedom is.”
