5. Serves on dean’s council at Pepperdine’s Caruso School of Law

While Zacharia graduated from Pepperdine’s Caruso School of Law more than a decade ago, she remains actively invested in her alma mater. Zacharia currently serves on the Pepperdine Dean’s Council. According to the law school’s website, the Dean’s Council “supports and advances the mission of the university by helping the Caruso School of Law achieve the highest standards of academic excellence and maintain its distinctive character.”

The website notes that “the Dean’s Council meets twice a year (once during the fall and spring semesters), and members are expected to attend each meeting.” Zacharia is one of nearly two dozen law school graduates serving on the dean’s council. It's not clear whether her appointment as White House press secretary will impact her service on the dean's council.

Her new role did not go unnoticed by her alma mater.

In an X post Friday, Pepperdine congratulated its alumna on her new position while praising her as someone who “exemplifies Pepperdine’s commitment to preparing students for exceptional lives of purpose, service, and leadership.” After stressing that “We wish her every success in this important role,” Pepperdine concluded its message by drawing attention to the school’s nickname: “Go Waves!”

Zacharia was grateful for the shout-out from her alma mater, sharing the X post and responding with a “Thank you!!!”
