Coldplay Announces New 'Kaleidoscope' EP, Drops Surprise Track 'Hypnotised' on Frontman Chris Martin's 40th Birthday

Coldplay has officially announced a new EP arriving in June. Titled "Kaleidoscope," the EP contains five songs--two of which have already been released.

The announcement came on frontman Chris Martin's 40th birthday on March 2, along with the surprise release of one of the tracks included in the EP, "Hypnotised." The lyric video, directed by Mary Wigmore, has been uploaded to YouTube and has drawn over five million views as of this time. The song is also available on streaming sites and for download.

Described by Martin as "a new non-single," the song debuted at number one on the 'Billboard + Twitter Trending 140' chart. According to Billboard, the chart "measures the real-time acceleration of conversation around artists and their music on Twitter." Other songs on the EP include "All I Can Think About Is You," "Miracles," "Something Just Like This," and "A L I E N S."

The band, who is currently in the middle of their "A Head Full of Dreams" world tour, previously teased the "Kaleidoscope" EP while speaking to Absolute Radio's Pete Donaldson.

"It's called 'Kaleidoscope,'" Martin said in November 2016. "It's all just an extension of this world that we're trying to create with this album," he continued, talking about the EP's connection to "A Head Full of Dreams."

Another song included in the "Kaleidoscope" EP is "Something Just Like This," the band's collaboration track with EDM duo The Chainsmokers. On Feb. 22 at the Brit Awards 2017, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers debuted the first live performance of the song just hours after releasing it to the world. The performance was lively, and Martin even jumped into the audience to join them for a dance party at one point.

On Sunday, March 5, the two groups will reunite on stage for the U.S. television debut of their song at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where Bruno Mars will also be presented with the 2017 iHeartRadio Innovator Award, the night's most prestigious honor.

Coldplay's new EP, "Kaleidoscope," will be released on June 2.
