Colton Dixon to Perform on American Idol Stage for Grand Finale

"American Idol" launched the careers of some of the nation's biggest Christian singers, including Mandisa, Danny Gokey, and Colton Dixon. As the show comes to an end, 24-year-old Dixon was invited back to perform for the grand finale.

Dixon is set to return to the "American Idol" stage for the last time Thursday, April 7, to perform for the iconic singing competition. The grand finale will be held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and the episode will air live on FOX from 8:00pm EST.

"American Idol's" grand finale will be filled with surprise appearances and star-studded performances as Idol pays tribute to the past 15 seasons. Thursday's final episode will include performances by former Idols such as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani, Allison Iraheta, Amber Holcomb, Blake Lewis, Bo Bice, Bucky Covington, Brandon Rogers, Casey James, Carly Smithson, Chris Daughtry, Clark Beckham, Clay Aiken, Constantine Maroulis, Danny Gokey, Diana DeGarmo, Elliott Yamin, Ace Young, George Huff, James Durbin, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Justin Guarini, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Kimberley Locke, Kree Harrison, LaToya London, Lauren Alaina, Melinda Doolittle, Pia Toscano, Sanjaya, Skylar Lane, Tamyra Gray and more.

"American Idol" helped launch Dixon's very successful career after he made it to the top seven on Season 11. Fans have been quick to support Dixon since the show, with his debut album A Messenger and the follow up, ANCHOR, both producing multiple No. 1 hits.

The final season of "American Idol" premiered on Jan. 6 and FOX brought back judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr for it's final season. Television and radio personality Ryan Seacrest, the competition's longtime host, also returned.

Once word of the series finale hit the news in May 2015, Dixon told Billboard that the popular show paved the way for so many. "I am forever grateful for the opportunities it provided for me and the experiences I've had because of it. I'm honored to be part of an amazing legacy and can't wait to see what the final season has in store," he said.

In a more candid interview with BREATHEcast last year, Dixon maintained that he is "sad" yet "proud of them for making the decision. I think they realized, quit while they're ahead. There's still 'American Idol.'"

Dixon has had a lot to celebrate recently, he married his longtime girlfriend Annie Coggeshall at the top of the year. The Nashville resident proposed to Coggeshall, 27, at Disney World in Florida last September and the happy couple married on Jan. 8 in Tennessee.
