'Criminal Minds' season 11 plot news: BAU dealing with The Dirty Dozen

With the upcoming season of "Criminal Minds" expected to air in less than a month, the series trailer revealed that the BAU will be challenged by new enemies with a special set of expertise.

The teaser showed that the BAU was infiltrated by a mole who has been spreading information about several cases being handled. However, the trailer didn't give any clues on who the mole is.

Furthermore, it was confirmed that the series will introduce new villains for the season. The show will bring several new characters with each presentation of crimes that the team will be dealing with. The only detail shared about the villains is that one will be a silent killer who uses injections on his victims and paints their faces.

According to TV Line, executive producer Erica Messer shared that the season will present a more serialized approach that will bring more excitement and suspense. With that, the team will deal with a team of assassins called "The Dirty Dozen."

As for Spencer Reid, the season is expected to put him in the limelight. Messer shared with Entertainment Weekly that Spencer Reid will have to use his knowledge to take down an opponent. Messer explained, "He [Reid] gets to do a takedown Reid style, which is just using his brain with a physical thing that's really disturbing - you have to turn away. It's not a standoff with a gun, it's a Reid version of a takedown."

In addition, it was speculated that his character will be receiving a lover interest in season 11. The upcoming season will introduce Aisha Tyler, who will be playing a character named Dr. Tara Lewis, a forensic. The character was speculated to be Reid's love interest.

Criminal Minds season 11 is expected to air this Sept. 30.
