Danica Patrick Hit by Rock: Requires Medical Attention After Head Injury (VIDEO)

Danica Patrick was hit by a rock while racing on a dirt track this week. The driver has said that despite the incident she is fine and no major injuries were sustained.

The incident happened on Thursday night when Patrick was taking part in a race on a dirt track. As she raced a rock flew up and smacked her in the head, leaving her saying that she felt like she had a concussion.

She was rushed to an infield care center where medical staff gave her a thorough check up. She later emerged with doctors saying she was healthy and no long term damage was done.

Patrick explained later that the rock had hit her "straight in the head," and she expressed her gratitude that she had a hat on otherwise things could have been much worse; she said that "there would have been blood" if the extra protection had not been present.

The racing car driver was the victim of a big crash last Sunday in Phoenix when she slammed her car into a wall with still about 100 laps remaining in the race. The crash at that time left her nursing a painful neck, although she is said to have quickly recovered to continue racing again.

This season Patrick has made history by becoming the first woman to win pole position and lead green-flag laps at the Daytona 500. However, despite her impressive form, come the end of the race she was only able to finish in eighth position this year.

Here is a video of Danica Patrick winning pole for this year's Daytona 500:
