The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees will face off Saturday evening in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. The game will start at 8 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream through one of the packages listed below.
The Yankees have had no time to celebrate their win over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Division Series. They took the series by winning a tense Game 5 against the Orioles on Friday night, and will immediately move into the ALCS play offs against the Tigers.
The Tigers meanwhile have had an extra day coming into their match up against the Yankees. Their series against the Oakland Athletics also went five games, but the Tigers were able to clinch the win in Game 5 on Thursday. On Friday Detroit waited eagerly to see who they would be facing in the ALCS - if the Orioles had won they would have started the series at home. However, since the Yankees came out on top they had to book their flights late night Friday and immediately set off for New York to give them time ahead of tonight's 8 p.m. start time.
The Yankees' hitters will come into this series against Detroit knowing they have to put more runs on the scoreboard. The games against the Orioles were dominated by the pitchers, with each contest being low-scoring, tight games. However, the Tigers have big hitters such as Cabrera and Fielder and it is likely the Yankees will require a lot more runs throughout this series if they are to make it to the World Series.
It could be wise for New York not to challenge Cabrera and Fielder where possible, and if they can negate their scoring power it would mean others in the Detroit line up having to step forward with some match winning plays. The Yankees' pitchers will have to be spot on with their strategy in stopping Cabrera and Fielder, and their success in doing that could be the difference between the win and the loss.
The first two games will be huge for the Yankees - they would love to win Game 1, and preferably Game 2 as well to take a lead for when the series moves to Detroit. Taking advantage of their home field is important, and they will not want to go behind early on in this seven game series.
Detroit will be looking to their star pitcher Doug Fister to keep the Yankees off the scoreboard as much as possible. They will have seen how the Orioles were efficient in keeping the Yankees to low-scoring games, and if the Tigers can do the same they will most likely win, having more firepower with the bat than Baltimore.
The Yankees have no time to prepare themselves for this series against the Tigers and they must hit the ground running tonight or the series could get away from them before they have even settled in.
