Dexter Season 8 Episode 2 Recap: A Serial Killer Revealed (SPOILERS)

The second episode of the "Dexter" final season, titled "Every Silver Lining…" aired Sunday night, and it seems the season is picking up steam rapidly. This episode was directed by Michael C. Hall, who also plays the show's star, Dexter.

Showtime's hit drama has a wide following and many fans are eager to see how the series will wrap up. Beware of spoilers of episode two ahead.

The episode begins with a scene between Dexter and his therapist Dr. Vogel, played by Charlotte Rampling. she provides some insight into Dexter's character, and the session with Dr. Vogel includes flashbacks to Dexter's father talking with Dr. Vogel himself. Dexter's father discusses Dexter as a young child not being phased by blood and gore. Dr. Vogel takes on a mother-like role in Dexter's life.

"Every Silver Lining" also reveals a plot twist for Deb, played by Jennifer Carpenter. It seems that the possibility of a relationship between Dexter and Deb isn't really much of a possibility after all, despite hints in that direction in pervious episodes. Deb tells Dexter she cannot love him, even if she wanted to.

"I didn't want to hate you," she told him. "I wanted the opposite, but it didn't turn out that way, and I can't change the way I feel."

Further complicating Deb's character is the reveal that she can now be classified as a serial killer herself. In last nights episode, Deb admits to killing El Sapo, and alludes to others she has murdered.

"You know what, El Sapo's not the first [expletive] person I've shot, and it might not be the [expletive] last ... anything can happen in this [expletive] that is now my life," Deb said to Dexter.
