'Doctor Who' Season 10 News: New Writers And New Companion For The Doctor
The much-anticipated Christmas Special for season 9 of "Doctor Who" is finally airing this week, on Christmas day. The episode will bring back the Doctor's wife, Professor River Song, played by Alex Kingston. It will be Professor River Song's first time to meet this incarnation of her husband, the Doctor. As for the Doctor, the last time he saw his wife was as a ghost. The Christmas Special is therefore anticipated to be another fun episode. It is also a prelude to the show's upcoming Season 10, which, according to a report in CarterMatt, is about to start production.
According to a report in CNET, the show's producer Steven Moffat revealed recently that they are already in talks with two new writers for the next season. When asked about the identities of the writers, he merely said, "If I told you their names, your brain would explode." The new writers are said to be entirely new to the show and have not written any of the previous episodes. He also called them "brilliant, prominent and amazing writers." Given this, he promised that the next season will be "amazing" as well.
The last episode of Season 9 also left the Doctor without a companion, with Clara going off to explore the universe with Ashildr and then eventually returning to Gallifrey. A CarterMatt report is saying that the identity of the next companion will not be revealed until after the Christmas Special. The report also noted how the show's star Peter Capaldi hinted what he wants the gender of his next companion to be. In an interview, he apparently said, "With the best will in the world, I don't want a bloke, because I'm frightened that they'll give him all the action and I'll be standing around spouting scientific gobbledygook."
Along with who will be cast at the Doctor's companion, guest casting announcements for the next season are much-anticipated as well, which fans hope will be coming in the next few months.
