Dog Saves 9-Week-Old Baby: Dog Saved Girl Who Had Stopped Breathing (PHOTO, VIDEO)

A dog has saved a 9 week old baby and is now being called a hero for alerting his owners to an emergency concerning their newborn.

The incident took place in Portland, Conn. in the middle of the night.

The family had put their new baby down to sleep in her crib before going off to bed themselves.

However, the Brousseau family were awoken by their dog, Duke, suddenly in the middle of the night.

According to reports, it was a Sunday night when the Brousseau's were awoken by Duke jumping onto their bed and shaking uncontrollably, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Duke was adopted by the couple six years ago and had never acted that way before.

The strange behavior immediately woke the couple up, and they straight away realized something must be wrong.

The couple investigated and checked on their nine week old daughter, Harper, and found that she had stopped breathing.

The father quickly ran to call an ambulance, according to ABC News, and paramedics arrived at the scene minutes later.

Thankfully the medical team were able to resuscitate baby Harper and she was later taken by ambulance to the hospital for further check ups and analysis.

Mother, Jenna Brousseau, testified how thankful she was to the family dog, saying: "If Duke hadn't been so scared, we would have just gone to sleep."

She also testified that she believed it was fate that they adopted Duke and that he was now part of their family, "He's the perfect dog, he was meant, meant to be ours."
