Drew Theological School to hold Fourth Trandisciplinary Theology Colloquium

Drew Theological School and Caspersen School of Graduate Studies sponsored Fourth Transdisciplinary Theology Colloquium, “Transfiguring Passions: Theologies and Theori” to be hold from October 29 to November 1, 2004.

The Colloquium plans to bring forth transdisciplianry conversation to further pursue theologizing of love.

According to Drew Theological School officials, Christian theology, traditionally, has tended to exalt the sublimity of divine love by degrading the pleasures of carnal eros.

Modern critics of this repression of sensuality have surfaced its deep collusion with misogyny, homophobia, racism, and disregard for the natural world.

Papers on this topic is distributed and read in advance, which later is discussed by paper presenters and invited discussants and then opened to the public.

Paper topics include, “Kissing Evita's Shoes: Reading Latin American Political Theology and Feetishism,” by Marcella Althaus-Reid, University of Edinburgh, “What Do We Talk About
When We Talk About (Platonic) Love” by Daniel Boyarin, University of California at Berkeley, and “Digital Bodies and the Transformation of the Flesh.” By Sheila Briggs, University of Southern California.

The event will end with a Student Session on Monday, Nov 1.
