Droid Razr HD to Topple Next Generation iPhone?

Apple received a significant blow this week when the news hit that the Droid Razr Maxx reportedly outsold the iPhone on Verizon in the last quarter.

The news surfaced yesterday and showed that the smartphone developed by the late Steve Jobs is not invincible.

Sure there are some critics who believe that the Razr Maxx caught a lucky break with its timing, being that Apple is preparing to launch a new iPhone, and customers are preparing to purchase it. But even if most customers on the largest carrier in the U.S. have developed an impressive amount of patience in their efforts to wait for an LTE iPhone, this Droid Razr Maxx victory should not be overlooked.

The Razr Maxx is nothing more than an original Droid Razr with a more powerful battery.

It is easy to see that the original version laid the groundwork for this victory earning an outstanding rating from CNET, who ranked it higher than most of the popular smartphones to launch in 2011, including the iPhone and its supposed "killer," the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The Galaxy S2 has been somewhat of a global phenomenon. But here in the states, the Razr reigns supreme.

Of course the trendy device to own these days has largely shifted from RIM's Blackberry to the iPhone 4 and 4S. But as trends move forward, it is inevitable that an Android device will be the next smartphone that everyone has to have.

The Razr seems like the likely candidate as the original flip phone held that top spot before the Blackberry came into prominence.

Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility sets the stage for an epic battle between Apple's next-generation iPhone and the Droid Razr HD.

The smartphone market could see a momentum shift if Motorola can deliver a device that appeals to tech heads and the average teenage girl. The small window of opportunity is here and Motorola needs to capitalize with its next Droid Razr handset.
