An Indiana man will now have to live with a mountain of heartache and a fatherless grandson after he allegedly shot his 19-year-old son dead in front of the teen's pregnant girlfriend after a drunken argument over football last Sunday evening.

The Indiana Daily Student reports that the man, David Carrender, 49, is currently detained at the Morgan County Jail on a preliminary murder charge for shooting his 19-year-old son Wyatt Carrender. Morgan County Sheriff Robert Downey said it was likely the victim's father could face other charges including criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Police report that the teen was allegedly shot about 8:25 p.m. Sunday by his father after the two had watched a football game at Buffalo Wild Wings in Indianapolis with family and friends.

The teen's girlfriend, Sabrina Canfield told police that while they were at the restaurant David Carrender drank 10 Blue Moon beers and several shots of whiskey. When the football game ended, David Carrender wanted to go to another bar to watch more football but his son who was the designated driver said he wanted to look at some cars for sale then go home.

As they drove home according to Sheriff Downey, an argument developed between the father and son and continued all the way to their home in Martinsville, Ind.

The fight escalated further in the home and the father and son pair fought in a stairway. Wyatt Carrender reportedly head-butted his father and sent him tumbling down the stairs. Both men retired to separate bedrooms in the home after the stairway incident.

David Carrender, however, took that time to get a .40 Caliber handgun and went to his son's room where he was sitting on a bed with his girlfriend. Wyatt attempted to move toward his father who, according to his girlfriend, told him: "I always knew I was going to have to do something like this."

The man fired on his son five or six times hitting him in the chest, arm and the pelvis, according to police.
In his interview with police, the often drunk David Carrender reportedly cried and told police he "had killed the thing that he loved most in the world."
