Kate Middleton Wears Princess Diana's Dearest Jewels

Two weeks after Prince William and Kate Middleton visited North America, the media is abuzz with news about the Duchess’ new accessories.

On her recent tour, the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted wearing a gift from her husband. The sapphire-and-diamond earrings were not average pieces of jewelry, but were once favorites of Princess Diana, according to MSNBC.

Diana, Prince William’s late mother and former Princess of Wales, was often photographed wearing the pieces. Kate followed suit by wearing the earrings more than once recently, during the couple’s trips to Canada and the United States.

The diamond-and-sapphire earrings once worn by Princess Diana have been slightly altered from studs into a tear-drop style pieces. The gems in the pieces match Middleton’s wedding ring which also once belonged to William’s late mother.

A source close to the Royal Family told the Daily Mail that the couple’s marriage signified a time for Prince William to pass along his mother’s heirlooms.

“Now that they’re married, [Prince] William wanted her to have some of his mother’s favorite pieces,” the source said.

The Duchess’ wedding dress, along with other jewels worn on her wedding day are to be made available for public viewing in London’s Buckingham Palace for the next couple of months.

According to US magazine, the latest acquisitions of the Duchess are signs that she is fitting in well with the royal family. The Queen of England reportedly joked with Middleton while viewing her dress at the Buckingham Palace recently.

“Horrid, isn’t it,” Queen Elizabeth II asked the Duchess in reference to Middleton's wedding dress exhibit. “Horrid and dreadful!”

The public will be allowed to view the dress and heirlooms, including the 1936 diamond Cartier tiara that she lent to the Duchess on her wedding day.
