'Dump Trump' Petition Passes 400,000 Signatures

A new petition urging the department store giant Macy's to drop Donald Trump as their celebrity spokesman is gaining traction, as it has already received several hundred of thousands of signatures.

The petition, posted on the website SignOn.org, states that Macy's should end their relationship with the real estate mogul for his continued "sexist" comments, his continued support of the "birther" movement, and various other "unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior."

As of Tuesday, the petition has already garnered more than 400,000 signatures from those who support the petition and its firm belief that "Donald Trump does not reflect the 'magic of Macy's,'" according to the petition.

The petition was created by Angelo Carusone, who had previously campaigned against Glenn Beck, a conservative commentator.

Singer and actress Cher was one of many celebrities supporting the so-called "Dump Trump" campaign and had previously referred to Trumps as a "loudmouth, racist cretin."

The singer used social media to spread her feelings with her followers in a short post published on Twitter.

"I'll NEVER GO TO MACY'S AGAIN! I didn't know they sold Donald Trump's Line!" Cher wrote on Twitter.

But this all may be an effort in futility as Trump's own clothing line that is sold at Macy's is a top-selling brand, coupled with the relatively recent introduction of a new series of men's ties.

Trump's spokesman Michael Cohen insisted that this petition would not hinder or dilute the businessman's relationship with Macy's, and explained that he is an important part of the Macy's brand.

"Mr. Trump is important to Macy's, both as a brand and as an endorser. His ties, shirts, cufflinks, fragrances and other merchandise are top-selling items across the country – in particular Mr. Trump's ties are the number one selling ties at Macy's," the rep stated.

Trump seems to be taking this new development in stride, and it does seem that he will not be leaving Macy's anytime soon if left up to him.

"Just saw my new line of shirts, ties & suits @Macys – they are fantastic! Would make great holiday presents!" Trump posted on Twitter.
