Eva Mendes Dog; Actress Wishes for More Privacy (VIDEO)

Eva Mendes revealed annoyance over paparazzi's coverage of her dog, Hugo, in an interview this week.

While promoting her upcoming film "A Place Beyond the Pines," the 39-year-old actress discussed strictly professional topics during a guarded sit-down with New York Magazine.

When asked about her "Pines" co-star and real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling, Mendes "shut down."

"That's where I start to shut down, because it gets into my personal territory that I don't feel comfortable talking about. So sorry," explained the Los Angeles-born star.

Furthermore, Mendes noted how the prying media has even affected her pets- the actress has a Belgian Malinois dog named Hugo, while Gosling has mixed-breed George.

"I'll go somewhere and they'll be like, 'Hey, Hugo,'" recounted Mendes to the publication. "And I'm like, 'How do you know Hugo's name? That's so creepy!'"

The actress even joked that she wished American publications would blur out her pets' faces just as British publications blur the faces of celebrity's children in order to maintain privacy.

Continuing to discuss her beloved pet, Mendes appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" last week.

"His name's Hugoooo," the actress elucidated. "Well, 'Ugo' if I'm upset or need to give him a command."

Mendes noted that her Belgian Malinois dog is among the same breed of canine that "went in to get Osama."

Because of Hugo's attack instincts, Mendes admitted that she uses a shock collar, but reassured viewers that she has used the device on herself to ensure safety.

"It goes from 0-110," said the actress. "I do not do it on my neck … I tested it on my arm. It's more than a tingle, it's way more than a tingle."

Meanwhile, Mendes is featured in new spring and summer 2013 ad campaigns for Vogue Eyewear.

"A Place Beyond the Pines" hits theaters March 29.
