Fan Regrets Setting Up Petition to Remove 'The Last Jedi' From 'Star Wars' Canon
Earlier this week, it was reported that a certain avid "Star Wars" fan named Henry Walsh started an online petition to remove "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" from the official "Star Wars" canon. Now, Walsh claims that he regrets starting the petition because of its negative impact on the fandom.
Walsh admitted starting the petition as a joke and not realizing how controversial it would become. Now that it has already stirred hate between fans and critics and within the "Star Wars" fanbase itself, the petitioner wishes he didn't start the petition in the first place. In fact, he is now pleading fans who signed the petition to focus their energies on more meaningful issues than keep throwing stones at Rian Johnson's work.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" proves to be one of the most divisive "Star Wars" outings ever. While some fans commend Johnson for the risks that he took in creating the movie, some feel offended by some of his characterizations.

In a recent post, Walsh revealed that he started the petition as a joke, but he was surprised that it got far more attention than he had expected. He also revealed that he recently got into an accident and started a GoFundMe page to help him with his expenses, but the page hardly raised any money. According to him, that made him realize that there are actually lots of campaigns out there that need more attention than the petition he created.
"I love all of the support, but we also know that Disney isn't going to do anything, and with so many people, who have much better causes, who are struggling to gain attention it is a shame that this is getting this level of media attention. So please, while we love 'Star Wars,' I urge every single supporter who signed this, to also take a few minutes to look at other petitions on Change.org, ones that are important, or look at causes on GoFundMe. Places where we can make a difference that matters," he wrote.
In his final post, Walsh reiterated that he still didn't like "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." However, he believes that the goal of the petition he has set up is not a realistic goal so fans should stop giving it so much attention.
