'Fargo' Season 3 Release Date, Cast News: New Season To Premiere In 2017 With New Cast, In New Setting

"Fargo" showrunner Noah Hawley has announced that Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed comedy-crime drama anthology won't be ready before 2017, Variety reports.

"The reality is you won't see it in 2016," Hawley revealed during a conference call for the second season of "Fargo." He added: "It's a winter show for better or worse. There is not time to shoot another year before this winter is over."

Hawley also said that he wants to be certain that the upcoming season is completely written before filming begins. He stressed that separating the writing from the production is "very important" to him and the other producers, and that they need to take their time and break the whole story down so that they know what they're doing and clear on what the whole story is.

The "Fargo" boss told the press that the writing process is currently underway and that the first hour of Season 3 has been written. He said that writing the new season will continue over the next several months and that production will begin in November. He expects "Fargo" to begin airing again by Spring 2017.

According to Hawley, Season 3 will be set in 2010, approximately four years after the first season ends. However, none of the regulars from Season 1 will play primary roles in Season 3, though Hawley also said that future stories could intersect with characters that viewers may have seen before.

But Hawley warns against looking for clues to Season 3 in the second season, saying that Season 3 is not teed up to Season 2. In the third season, according to the "Fargo" creator, the questions the producers sought to answer were, "What's left to say? What do we do that feels similar, but different so we're not repeating ourselves?" Hawley added, "We're always looking for connections and things that fit into the larger body of work we're building, hopefully without ever seeming twee or precious or too clever by far."
