Alzheimer's disease is a merciless form of dementia that slowly robs the brain of all of its function. It has no cure and eventually leads to death.

Lisa Abeyta's father suffers from advanced Alzheimer's and has lost nearly all of his ability to speak. However, when he sees the family dog, something beautiful happens: He begins to talk to it, and his fondness for the animal comes through clearly.

"Why don't I take care. I'll take you," he says. "And you take me."

Given their heartwarming bond, there's no doubt the dog would if it could.
