Floyd Mayweather Fight News: Bob Arum Believes Roberto Duran Would Have Dominated Mayweather If They Fought

Two of boxing's retired legends are continuously being pitted against each other.

In the recent past, the names of undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and boxing great Robert Duran have been associated with each other. As far back as October 2015, "Hands of Stone" vehemently disputed the general claim that Mayweather is "The Best Ever".

In a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer during the said time, Duran's first claim was based on the world titles he won in six different weight classes. He also took note about how fights in his time were 15 rounds long, as opposed to today's bouts, which go as far as 12 rounds, maximum.

In the said report, Duran also claimed that Mayweather "learned his style" and "didn't go anywhere using it".

According to another report by Miguel Rivera for Boxingscene last January 31st, Duran once again ripped at "Money Mayweather", this time around, boldly stating that he would have "busted" the latter's ribs, as he envisioned himself landing some hard body shots.

"You always throw to the ribs, and then you do the same thing to the other side (of his body)," Duran said. Duran added that Mayweather was born at a "time where boxing had been declining."

Mayweather retired from the sport of boxing last September, after a landslide victory over former world champion Andre Berto. After a wide-margined unanimous decision victory, Floyd Jr. ended his 20-year career with a record of 49-0, with 26 victories by knockout, winning world titles in five different weight divisions.

At 64 years old, there are almost zero chances of Duran to ever get back into the ring. But according to Top Rank chief Bob Arum, the Panamanian boxing legend would have handily beaten Mayweather, if the two former prizefighters did slug it out.

"I would have loved to make a fight between Roberto Duran and Floyd Mayweather Jr.," Arum said in another Boxingscene report. "I think Duran would have been able to get to Mayweather, and he would have kicked his a**."
