Glee Season 5 Postponed? Producers Taking Two Week Hiatus in Wake of Cory Monteith's Death

In the wake of the sudden and tragic death of Cory Monteith, Glee producers have announced that the show will be taking a two week break in order to figure out how to proceed with the show's storyline given the massive part Monteith's character had.

Cory's character Finn had a "massive storyline," a source close to the show told In Touch. "And it was going to happen right at the start of the season. Everyone on the show was told they were taking a two week hiatus until [the producers] figure out what they want to do."

"The writers and producers are trying to figure out what to do with Cory's character because they need to rewrite everything now," the source added.

Filming had originally been scheduled to begin at the end of July.

On Saturday, "Glee" fans were shattered after learning about Monteith's death, and on Tuesday the Vancouver Police Department confirmed the cause of death during a press conference.

"Mr. Monteith was alone [in his hotel room] when he died," a VPD spokesperson said according to Radar Online. "He took the heroin when he was alone by himself."

Monteith, who played Finn Hudson alongside Lea Michele on the popular TV series, was reportedly found dead alone in his hotel room Saturday by staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

The news has shocked the entertainment industry with friends of the late star expressing their deepest sympathies. A representative for Monteith's co-star and girlfriend, Michele, released a statement asking for privacy as she comes to terms with her loss.

"We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time," the statement read.

"She is absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable," a source told Hollywood Life. "She is devastated beyond belief."
