Google Pixel XL 2 Specs Rumors: Clues on 'Muskie' Device Found in Android OSP

The codenames for the much-anticipated sequel to the Google Pixel XL phone has shown up, by accident or by design, on Google's Android Open Source Project (AOSP). With the little information that was leaked, it's apparent that at least three devices from Google have taken part in the open source project.

For a first effort from a company new at making flagship smartphones, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL launch turned out to be amazing. The difference when compared to the usual Nexus devices with their stock Android has captured the interest of phone enthusiasts everywhere, so much that the market is more than ready for the next iteration of the Google flagship phones.

The company has not released information on any progress it has made on the next flagship phones, and even the usual rumor sources has been quiet as of late. So it came as an unexpected surprise to Android fans when "Muskie," the internal code word for the Google Pixel XL 2, showed up at the update logs of the AOSP, a detail that was caught by Android Police. Also present is "Walleye," which is code for the smaller Pixel, and another unit called "Taimen," a device that few outside of Google know any details about.

Google Pixel fans can take this as a sign that the company is actively working on the Pixel devices ahead of the upcoming Google I/O event. While the smartphones are still a long way from the projected fall launch date, a few specs have been speculated by Pixel fans by extrapolating from the features of the current generation of Pixel devices.

To improve on the current Pixel models, industry watchers are expecting Google to add dust and waterproofing to the next Pixel phones, according to WCCF Tech. The specs of the current phones are already advanced enough, so some sources claim that Google has turned to custom chipsets to gain the most performance boost from current hardware.
