'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 news, cast, spoilers: Alex and Jo stay strong
To say that last season's finale of "Grey's Anatomy" was devastating would be an understatement. The death of Derek Shepherd is probably the most heartbreaking loss the fans had to witness throughout the show's history. With the end of Derek and Meredith's great love, it seems like the start of Alex and Jo's.
With what has happened to the show's most iconic couple, viewers are now convinced that no couple might really last long on this show. With recent news saying that another favorite couple is breaking up, which would be April and Jackson, it's certainly disheartening for the couple's fans. The only steady couple left in the new season would be Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camila Luddington).
However, according to TV Line, it seems that during last month's Comic-Con, even Luddington expressed fears that the couple's good times would not last long. The rumors sparked after she confessed, "I'm nervous for season 12. Jo and Alex had three seasons of being pretty good, which is unusual on Grey's… I just don't trust things are going to continue to go well. Because it's Grey's Anatomy."
Shonda Rhimes, just recently, was quick to assure fans about the fate of Alex and Jo. She shares, "We had a lot of stories we wanted to tell with them last season, and I promised the fans, 'We're going to tell all these Alex and Jo stories.' And then we had to take a left turn because Patrick [Dempsey] was leaving. And now we want to tell a lot of those stories — except in a lighter way. So there's a real focus on them this season. I feel like we didn't get to know Jo the way we should. And Alex is sort of a grown man now; it's time to watch that happen." With that said, viewers will get to know Jo more, as well as the interaction between her and Alex.
Following this, the new season will bring forth a much lighter tone. Although April and Jackson may be spending time apart in the beginning, glimpse of hope is on the horizon as they will try to work their relationship out. Rhimes also hinted that there is a chance for reconciliation and staying together for the two.
The first episode of Grey's Anatomy season 12 will premiere on Sept. 24.
