'Hansel and Gretel' movie news, cast, spoilers: Some possible plots from leaked pitch artworks
It was actually a surprise to a lot of people when a sequel for "Hansel and Gretel" was announced because the first movie did not make it big in the box office. However, with a $50 million budget, it earned four times more worldwide, and this could be reason enough to get a go-signal for the sequel.
"Hansel & Gretel: With Hunters" is an action-horror film starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, inspired by the German folklore fairy tale Hansel and Gretel that follows the lives of the siblings who grew up to be witch exterminators. It is good news for the fans that enjoyed the film to know that the sequel is very much moving forward. With Renner's busy schedule and original director Tommy Wirkola choosing not to direct the second film, it seems to be tough times for the movie. However, recently, Bruno Aveillan was announced to take over in directing the movie.
Steven Ilous, known to be highly skilled in visual effects background, was apparently approached by Paramount as well, and he shares, "In 2015, I was sent the latest draft of the sequel to HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS for consideration to direct. Here at glance is a small look into my director presentation which consisted of original character designs, key art, storyboards, animatics, and a maquette. I had such a great time working with closely with Vincent Van Dyke from VVDFX, Bryan Wynia, Darek Zabrocki, Jonathan Gesinski, and the academy nominated Mike Elizalde from Spectral Motion. It was a great honor to be considered for this film."
Although the movie is already expected sometime in 2016, possible plots about the movie have been scant. Recently, though, some pitch artworks were leaked, which provided followers with an idea as to what could be expected. Screen Rant reports that Ilous shared artworks created by Vincent Van Dyke that included three images. First would be a title card showing "Hansel & Gretel: Death's Messenger." The second image shows a possible setting of the film, a crowded city with high towers, seemingly a waterway in the middle of the city. The third image features the possible antagonist that the sibling might be facing this time around, a character named "High Priestess."
For now, there is no set date for the expected release of the movie in 2016.
