3 stories from Hayden Panettiere's memoir that reveal predatory nature of Hollywood

1. Betrayal by an older friend at a party

In one chapter of her memoir, Hayden Panettiere recalled an experience from when she was 18, when a friend she called “Stella” took her to a boat party. Panettiere said Stella left her in bed with a naked man, but didn’t reveal his identity, describing him as a “famous thirtysomething British singer-songwriter.”

The actress recalled that Stella whispered in her ear, urging her to get in bed with the man. Panettiere said of the incident, “My body no longer felt like my own.” Stella was someone the “Nashville” star had trusted, which made the betrayal more surprising.

“The shock was so great it didn’t even occur to me to say no,” she stated. “Stella was one of my closest, most trusted friends, and this couldn’t be real. There was no way she’d ever let anything happen to me.”

Panettiere recalled that she eventually realized she needed to get off the boat and away “from this horrible woman and whatever she was up to.”
