3 stories from Hayden Panettiere's memoir that reveal predatory nature of Hollywood

2. Harassment from a ‘well-respected’ Oscar winner and director

Panettiere alleged that a “well-respected” and Oscar-winning actor and director exposed himself to her when she was only 19. The actress claimed in her memoir that the incident occurred at a party she attended with a friend.

Panettiere wrote that she decided it was time to leave the party after small talk with several of the men in attendance made her uncomfortable. She said that as she was putting on her coat, the unnamed Oscar winner approached her and said he had gum stuck on his pants.

“I looked down and recoiled,” Panettiere wrote. “This well-respected, award-winning actor’s testicles were hanging out from his unzipped fly.”

While the man did not physically harm her, the actress said his actions made her feel “shocked.”

“The gum on the pants, however, was a head-scratcher,” she wrote. “It hadn’t hurt me, and I was sure it was a drunken joke, but I’d never seen a grown man do something like that.”

Although she had attended the party with someone, Panettiere said she decided not to tell her friend about what happened because she figured “the moment had passed,” and reasoned that “some older men had just grown up with no manners.”
