HTC Ice Cream Sandwich Updates Starting in Last Week of March

Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates for HTC smartphones will begin rolling out officially in the last week of March, according to announcement on the company's Facebook.

The Taiwanese handmaker listed all of the devices that will be receiving the upgrade on its Facebook page earlier today. It promised that the first round of upgrades will be released by the last week of March.

The first devices to receive the update will be the HTC Sensation, Sensation 4G and Sensation XE. The HTC Sensation XL will be upgraded in "soon thereafter," according to the company.

HTC also listed devices that will receive Ice Cream Sandwich "later on this year" that includes the Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G, EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, Incredible S, Desire S and Desire HD.

This announcement builds up the anticipation for the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade and will most likely attract attention to HTC since it has made an almost official confirmation of its plans to go Android 4.0 on its smartphones.

Samsung seems to be taking its time for announcing upgrades on its other devices aside from the Galaxy Nexus which is the only smartphone to run on the system.

HTC could be attempting to attract customers with this announcement after suffering a 26 percent drop in sales for the holiday quarter. The company planned to scale back its 2012 roadmap in order to focus on its flagship devices. It has previously been spreading itself thin manufacturing and marketing dozens of short-lived handsets.

HTC is expected to make more announcements concerning its future at this year's Mobile World Congress set to take place in Barcelona, Spain on March 1. The HTC Ville and Edge are rumored to be making their debuts at this MWC.

The Edge will be the world's first handset that includes a quad-core processor running Nvidia's Tegra 3 chip.
