The new HTC smartphone could be released as early as Feb. 2014.

A judge ruling in a Nokia vs. HTC case in the U.K. accidentally revealed the release date for the successor to the company's 2013 flagship device.

"HTC is close to launching the successor flagship model to the HTC One," said the judge in the filing. "HTC has not revealed the launch date. Nokia has adduced evidence which suggests that the launch date is in the first quarter of 2014, and possibly as early as February 2014."

Two important trade shows will be taking place during the first two months of next year with CES in Jan. and MWC. In Feb. The M8 could end up making an appearance at either one of these events.

The HTC M8 recently appeared in AnTuTu benchmarks where the specs for the device were revealed.

The features are similar to the HTC One, further hinting that the M8 will be the next-gen model as an upgraded processor is found on board.

Specs found in the leak include Android 4.4, KitKat, a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AB processor at 300MHz, Qualcomm Adreno 330 graphics chip, a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, a 2.1-megapixel front camera, and 4-megapixel rear camera, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.
