This year, HTC and Apple are set to release new flagship phones which promise to be even better than their predecessors. Though some can't wait to get their hands on the latest devices from these two tech giants, others are opting to snap up earlier releases as they have become become more affordable, and the specs aren't bad either.

Here, we take a look at the HTC One E8 and the Apple iPhone 5C. Compared to their all-metal siblings, both smartphones are encased in plastic shells but have the chops to compete with other blockbuster devices in the market.

Design:
The One E8 is the plastic version of the HTC One M8. The phone curves softly at the edges and is available in Polar White, Maldives Blue, Electric Crimson, and Misty Gray. It measures 5.76 x 2.78 x 0.39 inches and weighs 5.11 ounces.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 5C is essentially the iPhone 5 but with a colorful coat. The phone has a polycarbonate plastic casing and has a smooth and glossy finish. Despite being made of plastic, it retains the same premium feel expected from an Apple device. The phone comes in white, blue, pink, green, and yellow and measures 4.90 x 2.33 x 0.35 inches. It weighs 4.66 ounces.

Features:
The One E8 comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 441ppi. The older iPhone 5C has a 4-inch screen with a lower resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels.

The HTC phone has a faster processor, as the E8 is powered by a 2.3GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip with 2GB of RAM, compared to the Apple phone which has a 1.3GHz dual core Apple A6 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The iPhone 5C comes with only 8GB of internal storage, while the E8 hosts 16GB memory space which can be expanded via a microSD card up to 128GB.

Price:
Off contract, the HTC One E8 costs $560 while the Apple iPhone 5C costs $500.
