iPhone 4S Release Date: Apple Breaks Sales Records With iPhone 4S

Apple has sold 4 million iPhone 4S devices worldwide within just three days of the new technology’s debut, breaking previous sales records.

Released Oct. 14 in seven countries, the iOS-based device will also be made available in 22 more countries by the Oct. 28, and a total of 70 countries by the end of the year.

The original iPhone 4 broke a company record at the time of its debut last year, and sold 1.7 million units during its first three days on the market.

The latest iPhone surpasses analyst expectations which were optimistic to begin with – in the “3 million units” range, according to Time magazine.

Sprint now carries the iPhone for the first time, and according to The Washington Post, the carrier “reported its best ever day of sales in retail, web, and telesales for a device in Spring history.”

It comes as no surprise that the new-and-improved iPhone 4S has met so much success, Apple marketing senior vice president Philip Schiller explained in a statement.

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than 4 million sold in its first weekend-the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together, with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever,” concluded Schiller.

Last week, Apple released the latest operating system for iOS-based devices, along with the company’s online storage and synchronization tool, iCloud. According to reports by Apple, over 25 million people have downloaded and are using iOS 5 in just five days. The system is applicable to devices iPad, iPhone, and iPod.

The iPhone 4S low-end 16GB version is available for $200 with a multi-year contract, while the 64GB version costs $400. If already in a contract, the 16GB device costs users $649, and the 64GB is priced at $749.

Rumors of the iPhone 5 continue to circulate, and recent reports indicate the device’s debut may happen in February.
