iPhone 4S Release Date: Cases Land in Stores Revealing Specs?

New phone cases have shown up in retail stores, which may be proof that an iPhone 4S will soon be released.

Several sources have reported seeing the cases, produced by the Otter Box Company at various stores.

BGR.com revealed photos of an iPhone 4S case bought at an AT&T corporate store while @chronicwire bought a case from an unnamed store.

On the box, it indicates that the cases are specifically to fit an iPhone 4S.

The sources detail that the most striking aspect of the phone cases are the new location of the volume buttons, which could be a tell tale sign of the updates made to the proposed iPhone 4S.

"LEAK: Photo of the back of the package showing the iPhone 4S case, depicting new volume buttons, and on the right side," @ chronicwire tweeted.

"New soft-looking volume buttons being on right side of iPhone 4S can probably be attributed to the ‘volume button to take pic’ iOS5 feature."

He goes on to claim that Otter Box has produced 3,000,000 cases for the iPhone 4S.

Rumors indicate that the iPhone 4S is a low cost version of the iPhone whose design will be similar to that of the iPhone 4 and that the smartphone will be released in conjunction with the iPhone 5.

Some speculation says that both phones will be released sometime in October. Other speculation says that the phone iPhone 4S will be released sometime this year and that the iPhone 5 will be released at a later date.

Apple is expected to host a conference on October 4 where new CEO Tim Cook will finally divulge the release date of the iPhone 5; most rumors about the smartphone will most likely be confirmed or denied at the conference.
