iPhone 4S Release Day: Apple Co-Founder Steve Woniak First in Line at Calif. Apple Store (PHOTO)

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak was spotted standing, or sitting, first in line in front of a California store Thursday, waiting with dozens of others to buy the new iPhone 4S that is being released Friday.

As usual in cases of new Apple product launches, long lines formed in front of Apple stores around the United States early, in most cases on the previous night, as impatient customers willingly held an overnight vigil, queued with their camping chairs and sleeping bags.

The first person in the line that started forming in Los Gatos, Calif., was no other than Wozniak, reported local media. Wozniak chose to wait with others in the long queue, despite the fact that, as he assured the media, he could have easily made one phone call to Apple and gotten the phone in an easier way.

Asked what he would do once he can finally lay his fingers on the new device, he said he will be taking "a thousand pictures," and maybe send a few e-mails, though he acknowledged it would be impossible to try out all the features in one day, reported CNN.

People have been reportedly stopping by Wozniak constantly, taking pictures, asking for autographs and attempting to chat. Some brought iPhones, iPods and iPads for the Apple legend to sign with a marker.

Some three million iPhones 4S are expected to be sold over the weekend, according to most estimates.

As the excited costumers could not wait to put their hands on the new iPhone 4S, they were not only willing to spend, in many cases, a rainy October night outdoors, but even pay for a spot in the line, in addition to splurging $399 on the new device.

One man in Staten Island, N.Y., reportedly camped in front of the store all night even though he had already pre-ordered the phone. His goal was to sell his spot the next day for a decent buck, reported PC Magazine.

"I am first in line at the Staten Island mall for the Apple Store. The iPhone 4s comes out tomorrow and lines will be crazy I selling my spot in line. So guarantee yourself on iPhone 4S by getting the first spot in line from me. Price is negotiable 347 623 5852 call or text," he reportedly posted on Craigslist Thursday.

The man said he was expecting at least $300 for the spot.

Wozniak was photographed by people online at the California Apple store. Some, like the one linked to above, posted the images to their Twitter TwitPic accounts.
