iPhone 5 Release Date: Do iPhone 4 Cases Fit the iPhone 4S?

Apple’s new iPhone 4S trumps the iPhone 4 in terms of speed and capabilities with a drastic under the hood redesign, while still sporting an identical look.

As far as shape, it seems that a case used for the iPhone 4 should fit on the new smartphone perfectly.

According to reports most iPhone 4 cases will fit on the new iPhone 4S.

The Verizon iPhone 4 reportedly has an identical button configuration to the iPhone 4S, so most of the cases should be compatible.

Reports also say that only certain form-fitting cases will not accommodate the 4S model.

The iPhone 4S measures 4.5 inches tall and 2.3 inches wide, while being .37 inches deep.

The iPhone 4’s measurements are mostly identical, with the main difference being the new placement of the mute switch and two volume buttons in order to accommodate for the new dual-antenna system.

The iPhone 4S’s mute button has been moved 3 millimeters to the right, while the two volume buttons are moved about 1 millimeter to the right.

Here is a list of some of the cases compatible with the iPhone 4S available in the Apple Store.
