iPhone 5 Release Date: iPhone 4S Unveiled, Voice Controlled Assistant 'Siri' Introduced
Apple has introduced its newer, faster iPhone 4S as well as voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant called “Siri.”
Siri, the voice assistant, activates by holding the home button on the iPhone. Only offered on the iPhone 4S, the application takes English, French, and German.
The iPhone 4S has increased battery life, among many more improvements. It can switch between two antennas and service towers, maximizing call quality. The new mobile device is two times faster than the iPhone 4, and involves faster downloading, at 14.4 Mbps versus 7.2 on the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4S camera has 8 megapixels, operates faster, has face detection, as well as 30 percent more sharpness, and better white balance.
Video capabilities of the new phone include noise reduction, image stabilization, and 1080p video.
Apple’s new iPhone 16GB is available for $199, while the 32 GB is $299, and 64 GB for $399, with a two-year contract. There are both black and white versions.
Preorders for the iPhone 4S begin October 7, and the official release will come on October 14th in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K. France, Germany, and Japan.
The phone will reach 22 additional countries on October 28th, and 70 countries by the end of the year.
Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook introduced the new device at the campus near San Francisco, California.
Unveiling new hardware today, Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook took the stage.
“This is my first launch since being named CEO-I’m sure you didn’t know that,” Cook said to the audience at the event. For the first time in over a decade, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs is not spearheading an Apple event.
Cook stepped in during Jobs’ 2004 and 2009 medical leaves.
“I love Apple and consider it the privilege of a lifetime to have worked here for 14 years and to assume this role,” continued Cook. “Today we’ll remind you of the uniqueness of this company as we announce innovations from our mobile OS, to apps, services, and hardware.”
