iPhone 5 Release Date: Siri Rather Than iPhone 4S is the Killer Announcement (PHOTOS)

Apple has unveiled its newer, faster iPhone 4S at the big unveiling event in California Tuesday. Arguably the biggest feature is the voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant called “Siri.”

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Product Marketing Phil Schiller said in his announcement that he wanted “devices that could really understand you; that you didn't have to use a restricted lingo when asking for music or searching for directions.”

Siri is probably the most impressive announcement to come out of Tuesday's conference. The company officially bills Siri as an “intelligent assistant that helps you get things done, just by asking.” Siri has the ability to make appointments on the smartphone's calendar, to read text messages, and fully sync the phone without using touch.

The “humble personal assistant” software is only offered on the iPhone 4S and the application takes English, French, and German.

"We’re talking another technology revolution. A new computing paradigm shift," Norman Winarsky, one of the founders of Siri, said earlier this week, according to The Telegraph.

Siri is hoped to be an intelligent voice technology that can change the way people view phones and the potential of technology around them.
