2. Passengers overpowered the co-pilot

Captain Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door after he was stabbed, allowing passengers and on-board crew to overpower the attacker as the aircraft descended sharply.

“We felt helpless, suspended in midair, and I didn’t know who to turn to. But it was all instinct to survive,” Asaf Rajuan, one of the passengers who intervened, said in a statement shared by the Israeli government.

Shota Musayev, a dentist who treated the captain, recorded a video inside the plane that shows the co-pilot on the floor after passengers restrained him.
