3 hot topics JD Vance, 'The View' co-hosts sparred over about Trump
1. 'The View' hosts challenge JD Vance on race
During Vice President JD Vance’s appearance on “The View,” host Whoopi Goldberg abrasively asked what black people had done “to this administration that has allowed it to really stigmatize folks of color.”
“You know how hard it is, you have folks of color in your family, so when you see, you know things, the Emmett Till stuff coming down, or them doing all kinds of removal of information of black heroes, how does that sit with you?” Goldberg asked.
The vice president asked Goldberg what she was talking about, prompting her to reply, “They’re taking down the actual history that happened in this country.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin also chimed in, saying that black history is being “erased from public spaces.” Hostin further claimed that black voting districts “are being dismantled” and black leaders are being sidelined from our ranks.”
“Where do Americans of color fit in this vision?” Hostin asked. “Because it doesn’t seem like we fit.”
Vance pushed back against the claims, stating that “black history is not erased from public spaces, that is not right.”
“I’m telling you we celebrate black history, we celebrate all American history in this administration,” he said.
At one point, Vance rebuked Goldberg for accusing the Trump administration of being “anti-minority or anti-black,” which “The View” host denied doing.
The questions about race from “The View” hosts follow accusations that the administration is attempting to rewrite history after the president signed an executive order last year titled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.”
President Donald Trump’s executive order directed the Department of the Interior to ensure that public property "does not contain descriptions, depictions, or other content that inappropriately disparage Americans past or living."
U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley in Massachusetts issued a preliminary injunction on Friday to pause any additional changes. Kelley also ordered the Trump administration to restore websites and other content that had been changed under the executive order.
