Jeremy Meeks was picked up by Stockton, Calif. police in a gun sweep Wednesday. It seemed like another bad decision in the 30-year-old's life. He previously served 9 years in prison for grand theft, and now he's facing 5 felony charges for weapons and gang activity.
However, something curious happened when the Stockton PD posted his mugshot on their Facebook page. The internet went wild, and you need only see the picture once to understand why.
Jeremy Meeks is a good-looking man.
The photo has over 71,000 likes and 20,000 comments on it now. The hashtag #freejeremymeeks is cruising at a nice clip on Twitter.
Unsurprisingly, Meeks' mom, Katherine Angier, is using the spotlight to proclaim her son's innocence.
"Please help. My son was taken into custody on his way to work. He is a working man with a son. He is being stereotyped due to old tattoos," Angier wrote on a GoFundMe page she started to go toward his $900,000 bail. It's raised a little over $1,000 so far.
TMZ reports Meeks has been married for 4 years and has a 3-year-old son. According to his sister, he's been a practicing Christian for 7 years.
This KXTV report includes an interview with Meeks and reactions to his famous mugshot from citizens on the streets of Sacramento.
