Joe Mauer Engaged to 'Best Friend' Maddie Bisanz

After much speculation, Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has admitted that he is engaged to his girlfriend, Maddie Bisanz.

"I was hoping for a yes and she said yes," Mauer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Sunday. "I'm getting to marry my best friend."

Mauer, a St. Paul native, proposed this past weekend. When local St. Paul reporters asked Mauer earlier this month whether or not he was engaged, he denied the rumors.

Both Mauer, 28, and his new fiancé went to Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul. The Minnesota Twins star graduated from Cretin-Derham in 2001 and was the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB draft the same year.

Mauer, 2009 American League MVP, has spent eight years with the Minnesota Twins and has developed a hugely successful career.

A wedding date for the Minnesota Twins catcher and Maddie Bisanz has not yet been announced.
