Kanye West Custom Designed Nike Sneakers Fetch $80,000 Online (PHOTO)

Nike's new Air Yeezy 2 sneakers, which were personally designed by rapper Kanye West, fetched over $80,000 on eBay just days before hitting retail stores in the U.S.

The custom designed sneakers will officially go on sale on Saturday and although they will be sold for only $245, the futuristic-like shoes are being sold for much more by sellers who were fortunate enough to have pre-ordered them, according to TMZ.

eBay, which specializes in online auctions, has various listings which offer the in-demand shoes at a range of prices.

On Wednesday one particular listing had at least 79 bids with the "current bid" reaching $89,100.00 almost four hours prior to the auction's end, which for some critics, raised concerns about consumer safety.

In 2011, Nike released it's highly anticipated limited edition Air Jordan sneakers, which led to a national outbreak of violence.

The $180 shoes, which saw eager buyers camping outside of stores for days just to secure their purchase, went on sale in December and even before store doors opened several arrests were made and police were called to manage unruly crowds.

Former NBA star Michael Jordan was first seen wearing the shoes over a decade ago and they were an instant hit.

West, 34, has been seen wearing the custom designed sneakers for several months and hundreds of thousands of fans are said to be eager to emulate their idol.

While the fashionable sneakers have already proven to be a hit for West, the hip-hop mogul was recently left red-faced after debuting his fashion line at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year.

The fashion show, which featured guests like Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and and Alicia Keys, left some critics suspecting whether he had copied looks from renowned designer label Givenchy's prior season, according to the New York Daily News.

West brushed off criticisms and is expected to pursue a career in fashion.
