Kate Hudson Reacts to Royal Baby, Reveals Brush With Prince William

Kate Hudson admitted that she was among the many fans anxiously awaiting the royal baby last month, and also noted a past connection to Prince William during an interview this week.

The actress appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" Thursday where she conceded to never having met Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.

However, she took joy in the arrival of the royal couple's, son Prince George, all the same.

"It was insane, actually," said Hudson, who lives in London with British fiancé Matt Bellamy, their son Bingham, and Ryder, her 9-year-old son from a past relationship.

"You can't help but follow it since it's on every news channel like that's all you saw … that was the longest labor on news," the 34-year-old actress noted of the media frenzy surrounding the royal baby. "It literally was full coverage."

Furthermore, the "Reluctant Fundamentalist" star recounted that long before Prince William became a father, he and members of his family stayed in Hudson's family's Colorado home.

"Prince William and Prince Harry actually stayed at our house in Colorado when they were kids," Hudson revealed. "I remember we were all in L.A. and they were staying with their mom [Princess Diana] at the time … and we get this phone call at the house."

Hudson, who is the daughter of Hollywood veteran Goldie Hawn, recalled that her stepfather, Kurt Russell, spoke to the young prince.

"The phone rang, my dad [Russell] answers it, gets on the phone … sure enough, I think it was Prince William calling my dad to ask if he could use to ATVs, the four wheeler things," said the actress speaking to Jay Leno.

Hudson noted that not only did Russell grant William permission to use the 4-wheelers, but that he was deeply impressed with the heir to the British throne.

"[Russell] said, 'Now that's a really well raised boy,'" the actress recalled. "That was pretty cool … that's as close as I got!"

Meanwhile, Hudson most recently appeared in several episodes of "Glee" and is currently filming the movie "Good People."

Next year, the actress will appear in both "Born To Be King" and "Wish I Was Here."

Alternately, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken their newborn son, Prince George of Cambridge, to the Middleton home in Bucklebury, Berks, England.
